I feel like this is the first time I've surfaced since last Monday. I've had a sinus infection and I'm only just starting to feel like myself again. And now I'm one day late welcoming December! I hate missing the start of the month!
It's turning dark so early now - but I really do love December. There's something just so inviting about holing up inside, eating more, wearing fuzzy clothes and the like. Since I was house-captive all weekend (and parts of last week!) I got to kick off the season of hibernation accordingly: 24/7 long johns, Christmas movies, lots of tea, books and take-out.
Ottawa is actually an amazing city to live in all year round, but it really does shine in the winter. Which is good because 4 out of 5 winters we'll have lots of snow and cold weather.
Here's how I keep the winter kind:
- Skating on the Canal - Running - Outdoor hockey games - Peppermint hot-chocolate for breakfast - Beavertails - New mittens and a new toque - Snowshoeing and downhill skiing - Fireplaces (I'm a big advocate of the yule log DVD) - crafts, puzzles and movie marathons - mulled wine - playing with Cliff in the snow because he just can't get enough of it - family - as much as winter travel will allow - a stack of books and - and right now, I'm relishing the Christmas Vinyl collection that is near and dear to my heart.
What about you guys? Are you ready for winter?
